For resources on the
National Grid Pilot Platform (NGPP), a list of common software is required to be installed in each of these clusters so as to form an interoperable grid. These include monitoring tools, scheduler plug-ins, that is available in most of them has been drawn. This is known as the Common Software Stack (CSS). The list is as follows:
- Ganglia
- Compliant Local Workload Scheduler (LSF, & SGE/N1GE)
- Multi-Organization Grid Accounting System (MOGAS) plug-in
- Meta-Scheduler plug-in (for selected nodes)
Apart from the generic CSS, domain specific software stacks (DSSS) have also been drawn up. DSSS is important because inevitably, specific software on various resources on the grid is required to perform a certain task. While some programs can be automatically be despatched to the machine to perform the job, in most cases, the software needs to be installed in the machine prior to execution. In view of this, participating NGPP organizations are encouraged to have the DSSS installed on their resources. Currently, only Life Sciences and Digital Media DSSS have been drafted.
