Digital
Certificates
Digital
Certificates are used in the Globus Toolkit (GT) middleware
as part of their Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) framework
for security. While the creation of digital certificates
could be accomplished by using public source certificate
generation tool (e.g. simpleCA), the level of security
implemented is dependent on the processes in checking
the identity of the user or host before issuing the certificate,
and also the extent to which the root key is stored.
These are processes stated in the Certificate Policies
(CP) and the Certification Practice Statement (CPS).
It is the CP and CPS that constitute a basis for the
accreditation of a Certification Authority (CA).
NGPP
CA
NGPP
uses commercial digital certificates issued by Netrust
Pte Ltd. NGO is the Organisation
Registration Authority that handles
all digital certificate applications.
Netrust CA certificate available here.
For
test-bedding and trial use, NGPP has its own Test
CA to handle
adhoc, short-lived certificates, which do not require
the security
level
that commercial digital certificate serves.
NGPP Test CA certificate available here.

Certificate
Policies (CP)
Netrust
issues multiple classes of certificates to support different
certificate user communities. Each
class of certificates is governed by a CP that differentiates
the use of the certificates for different application purposes
and/or by different certificate user communities.
NGPP
User Certificates are issued under Corporate Net-ID Certificate
("NCNC"), and
NGPP Host Certificates are issued under NetServer
Certificate ("NSDC").
The
CPs for these Netrust certificate types are available
at:
http://www.netrust.com.sg/practices_policies.html
Certificate
Practice Statement (CPS) Netrust
has introduced one single CPS to support the above CP(s).
Each CP must be read in conjunction with the CPS. The
Netrust CP(s) and CPS are to be understood and consulted
by Netrust Relying Parties. The Relying Parties should
assess their own requirements when relying on a particular
Netrust certificate, taking into consideration the Netrust
CP, applicable to that Netrust Certificate, together
with the Netrust CPS.
The
CPS is available at Netrust's website at:
